It’s almost time for this year’s DiscGames Fall Flying Disc Festival and this year we are pleased to announce the first annual “Shorty Powers Disc Golf Wheelchair Doubles Tournament.” It’s a new addition to the DiscGames weekend October 29th that honors one of my heroes, Michael “Shorty” Powers who we lost this year to cancer. Shorty motivated me to create DiscGames.org after experiencing my first Turning P.O.I.N.T. Extravaganza and the thrill of helping people with disabilities learn to play Disc Golf. This will be our 13th year of fun which includes a Disc Golf clinic, distance and accuracy contests, Disc Golf horseshoes, and the 5th Annual Amputee Disc Golf Classic, carnival type Frisbee games and more. It’s FREE for persons with disabilities, all others $10, everybody gets a disc.
The first “Shorty” will take place at B.B.Owen Park (Kingsley & Plano Rd) in Dallas and is FREE for all to play. Play starts at 2 but come early for pointers. Each team receives a commemorative, limited edition, “Shorty” Golf Disc. Additional discs can be purchased for just a $10 donation. Players in wheelchairs team up with able bodied players and compete on a modified 9 hole Disc Golf course we are calling “The Shorty”. Partners drive and alternate shots from the best lie until each hole is completed and able bodied partners help chairs navigate the course as well as shoot un-playable lies. Prizes will be awarded for top 3 team scores.
To help keep costs down we are only pre-ordering a limited number of “Shorty” discs based upon response so please register by e-mail with your name, phone number and number of people in your party by October 15th. Or text register to 214-533-1983. You may pay in advance or at the event. All pre-paid entries receive event mini-disc set and t-shirt(specify size) If we run out of Shorty discs, and you were not pre-registered yours will be mailed to you
